One of the biggest hurdles facing young filmmakers is access to high-quality, professional actors. Over the years, we’ve seen too many good films miss the cut because high school age actors are playing adult roles. Would you cast a 60 year-old as a 15 year-old? Probably not. So why cast a 15 year-old in an adult role? Most likely because you simply don’t have access to adult actors. Well, that’s about to change in a BIG WAY!
We are excited to announce a partnership with Backstage.com, the leader in virtual casting with more than 100,000 actors and performers one click away, who will be providing FREE access to their services for all AAHSFF participants. Backstage has a great reputation in the casting world and has been extensively used by festival founder Andrew Jenks for many of his films.
For over 50 years, Backstage has been the most trusted place for actors and performers to find jobs and career advice, and for casting professionals and talent seekers to find the right performers for their projects.
Today, Backstage is the largest online casting platform in the United States, with over 4,000 roles posted every week, and over 100,000 members building their careers on the platform.

IMPORTANT NOTE: You should only post fully-realized, organized projects with definitive shoot dates, time commitments and specific project details. The actors on Backstage.com are serious about their craft and deserve to be treated as professionals.
Make sure actors know:
Your project is a student film.
If they will be compensated for their time (money, lunch, dinner, access to footage for their reel, etc).
That you are a serious filmmaker and aren’t wasting their time. Include links to other projects you are particularly proud of and any accolades you have earned.
Cast a wide net - don’t limit your casting to a specific look or eye color or hair color! You never know what talent you could be missing out on if you limit yourself!
Review actors resumes - what an actor’s resume shows can tell you a lot about how experienced they are.
We strongly recommend having adult supervision when working with adult actors.
